The department of Pharmacognosy and Biotechnology is engaged in imparting knowledge in the various fields of natural medicinal products through theoretical and practical mediums. It remains as a promising modern science with multiple disciplines including Phytochemistry and biotechnology. The department has initiated research on extraction, isolation and purification and biological evaluation.The Department is engaged in the study of drugs from natural products i.e. plants, animals, marine and other life origin. Herbal and polyherbal formulations were formulated and evaluated for their antidiabetic, antioxidant, antifungal, hepatoprotective activities through their departmental collaboration. It is involved in teaching and research activities for undergraduate and also offers add on courses.

The department maintains a medicinal garden that serves as botanical source for research works and has various rare and common species of medicinally valuable plants.
