Dr Jithendra Chimakurthy has done his bachelor of pharmacy in Vinayaka Mission’s College of Pharmacy, Salem (2002) and Master of Pharmacy in C.L.Baid Metha College of Pharmacy, Chennai (2006), both affiliated to Dr. M.G.R. Medical Univeristy, Chennai. He has obtained his Ph.D from Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur (2013). He started his career as a lecturer in Bapatla College of Pharmacy, Bapatla in the year 2006 and has held various positions before taking in charge as the Head of the Department of Pharmacology. His research activities mainly concentrate on CNS disorders and the influence of various bio active molecules on them with emphasis on neurochemical changes in the brain.

Description of research

Dr. Jithendra Ch research was on neuropharmacological effects of curcumin, aethusa cynapium and ginkgo biloba, the effect of these herbal constituents on various CNS disorders were studied during the period of 2007 – 2012 which led to the award of his Ph.D. from Acharya Nagarjuna University, in the year 2013.. The effect of these constituents on various disorders of anxiety such as generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder were studied. The effect of these constituents on other CNS disorders such as grand mal epilepsy and petit mal epilepsy, catalepsy were studied. The effect of these active constituents on memory and memory disturbances associated with various central nervous system disorders were carried out, a novel animal model for the screening of short term memory was developed. The mechanisms involved in the learning and memory were elucidated and the possible neurotransmitter disturbances that mediate such memory alterations were identified in various research projects conducted in the institution.
